Your Happiness

Added on by Chris Saad.

They say (at least in the west) that a healthy state of mind is one where you are free of dependency on someone (or something) else for your happiness. Your happiness should be intrinsic rather than extrinsic.

I partially believe and experience this to be true. I'm pretty good at moderating my fundamental/core happiness such that external factors don't affect it too much.

However where I always struggle is with happiness/experiences unshared. I often use the analogy of a tree falling in a forest with no one there to hear it. Success (or experiences - of all kinds) unshared with a significant other have always felt more hollow and, as a result, bittersweet, to me.

Am I alone in this feeling? Does it have a name?

Side note: That's one of about 6 or 7 reasons why I share a lot on social media. I also do it for personal journaling, legacy, serendipity, feedback/advice, helping others and influence (in that order).
