We Have to Disrupt Our Lives

Added on by Chris Saad.

Historic art as a study of good and bad government. Beautiful.

"The right to protest, the right to assemble freely, the right to petition ones government. These are not just rights. In the face of fraud and division these are obligations.

We have to disrupt our lives so that we can disrupt the amoral accretion of power by those who would betray our values."

Wow

Kindness

Added on by Chris Saad.

At Uber and Square HQ there are these wonderful security guards that have taken to kindly holding the heavy lobby doors open as people stream in to start their day. What's really notable, though, is that they smile and look people in the eye as they do it.

Death and Regret

Added on by Chris Saad.

Faced with imminent death, people get calm and accepting. However, they all want either forgiveness, remembrance and/or meaning.

What will you regret? What will you be remembered for? What will you have achieved?

I ask myself these questions almost every day.

Communicate Effectively

Added on by Chris Saad.

I spend a great deal of time in the day trying to make those circles the same size. It's one of the key struggles of my life's work.

A large part of success in almost any endeavor is effective communication of one's ideas to relevant stakeholders over time.

Always getting better, but always falling short.

Totally Different Direction

Added on by Guest User.

"A woman is watching the news on TV and they are reporting live from a helicopter about a man driving down the highway going the wrong way. All the other cars are swerving all over the place trying to avoid hitting this guy.

She calls her husband to warn him as he knows that he travels on that highway at this time.

She says to him, "There's this crazy driver on the highway going the wrong direction."

He replies emphatically, "Just one, hell there's a whole bunch of them going the wrong way.""

If you're the only one going in a totally different direction to everyone else, are you prescient or deluded?

Based on probabilities, it's very likely the latter.

Mitchell's 25th Birthday

Added on by Chris Saad.

Today is my brother Mitchell's 25th birthday. A quarter century. Wow.

I hate being stuck so far away for this special day. I've missed so much of his growing up. Missed so many occasions in the pursuit of the entrepreneurial dream.

Being 10 years older than your closest sibling gives you a special perspective on them.

I spent so much time as an only child - the whole time wishing I had a brother to hang out with.

When I heard he was coming along I was as ecstatic as a 9yo boy could be. Looking back at all our childhood pictures recently I was reminded how close we've always been. Almost every one depicts me showing him something or helping him do something. Or vice versa.

And then, as he grew up, it became increasingly clear that he was turning into a thoughtful, loving, kind hearted and brilliant kid, and now man. Anything he puts his mind to comes effortlessly to him. Language, Music, 3D modeling, code, and more.

I miss you bro. I'm proud of you. I hope you have an amazing birthday and an amazing year.

Startrek Voyager 2x19

Added on by Chris Saad.

Funny - we just watched this episode last night and then the quote appeared in my FB memories

The Doctor: "Why would people seek out situations that induce such unpleasant symptoms?"

Kess: "Because when the other person feels the way you do, it's the most wonderful thing in life"

On Love. Voyager 2x19

Politics is not a linear spectrum

Added on by Chris Saad.

I thought of this idea and imagined this diagram in my mind's eye. Decided to google for it before going to the trouble of making it myself and, of course, someone already drew it.

Politics is not a linear spectrum. It's a circular one. Extremists on both sides create abhorrent outcomes.

For example, one side will censor you because of 'immoral thoughts', the other will censor you because of 'political correctness'.
